According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in Michigan was at 15.3 percent as of September 2009—the highest of any state in the U.S. Currently, 18.7 percent of Michigan’s working adult population—1.13 million people—are uninsured.
